Rivers Edge Tracking
A Hunter’s Perspective. A Handler’s Dedication.
I’m David Thacker, the owner and handler behind Rivers Edge Tracking in Madrid, Iowa. I’m a hunter, dog handler, and trainer who believes our responsibility to the animal continues long after the shot. That belief is what drives me to help other hunters when a recovery becomes uncertain.
As a hunter, I understand the time and effort that go into a season and the sinking feeling when the blood trail runs out. When you call me, you’re talking to someone who understands why finding that deer matters. My goal is to listen, offer honest guidance, and help you make the best decision for your situation.
Built Around Working Dogs
Training and working with dogs is a major part of my life. Along with tracking, I work in obedience and retriever training. I enjoy building a dog’s foundation, developing its abilities, and watching that work come together in the field.
Being a handler means learning to read the dog as carefully as we read the sign. Every trail presents different challenges, and I work to understand what my dogs are telling me while giving them room to do their job. Our partnership is built through consistent training, time together, and experience.
Five Years Behind the Tracking Lead
This is our fifth year tracking wounded deer. Ryder, my black Labrador Retriever, is an American Blood Trackers Association certified tracking dog and an experienced partner on the trail. Oakley, my Bloodhound, is newer to tracking but has made a great start with her strong nose and determination.
Based in Madrid and serving most of Iowa, we approach each call with respect for the hunter, the landowner, and the deer. I won’t promise a recovery, but I will give you an honest assessment and our best effort.
When in doubt, back out—and give us a call.
